VoIP Allows A Technologically Advanced Alternative To The Traditional Landlines

In an age where the internet is beckoning todays growing technology, phone lines are now going online too Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP for short, is joining the technological trend in switching signals from analog to digital.

With VoIP phone services, phone calls are made over the internet as opposed to the landline wire services that telephones traditionally operate on. All that is required is a broadband internet connection or more specifically, an internet connection that is provided via cable modem or any type of high-speed connection such as a DSL or a LAN.

If a broadband connection is available, hooking up a phone or computer to a VoIP service can be done. As long as a broadband connection is up and running, a VoIP phone service is capable of running as well. If a broadband connection exists, service may be provided to subscribers in one of three ways. A VoIP service may be hooked up to a computer. This usually requires software and a microphone.

VoIP computer to computer calls generally require no fee under most subscriptions, which makes long distance and international calling cheap. Travelers who take their computers with them wherever they go are able to use their VoIP services in areas where wireless internet services exist. These areas include airports, cafes, parks and other areas where wireless internet is available. Computer users dont have to worry about traditional cell phone issues such as getting service or roaming and long distance charges that tend to sky-rocket when traveling. The software installed on the computer will alert the subscriber of incoming calls and will provide the user with special features and options.

For those who are not so computer savvy, a special VoIP telephone is available. These telephones come with an Ethernet port that is built-in and ready to plug into a broadband internet connection. IP phones are portable and are generally small. Anywhere there is a broadband connection an IP phone can be used. A good number of VoIP services will provide an IP phone for free with purchase of a subscription. Those who dont want to let go of the analog telephone can still get VoIP service with an Analog Telephone adapter (an ATA). This adaptor will make it possible to convert analog signals to digital so that phone calls can be made over the internet.

All VoIP products convert analog signals into digital data. A voice goes into the telephone or microphone, is converted from analog data to digital data and travels over the internet to the receiver. Dont anticipate issues when calling not so technologically advanced friends and family members because when a VoIP service sends a digital signal to a regular phone number, the signal is converted back into a regular telephone signal before it reaches the other end. In fact, using a VoIP service via an adaptor or IP phone is much like using a regular telephone. It will ring just like your regular telephone always has and user reviews say the quality is much like that of a typical landline service. The major advantage to this new telephone technology is cost.

Most providers offer a fixed rate per month that includes local and long distance calling regardless of time or place. Some services restrict unlimited calling to a designated area, but when calling outside of this area calls dont tend to cost much extra. The general cost of calls and subscriptions is very low compared to traditional wire services. Portability comes into play when subscribers dont have to pay a high extra fee for roaming and long-distance calling as they do when using mobile phones. The packages offered by VoIP providers often include features that wire services dont provide, or services that traditionally come at an extra cost.

Most VoIP services include features such as call waiting, three way calling, etc under their subscription plan as opposed to charging extra for them as add-ons to the basic subscription price. You can also send data like documents and pictures, at no extra cost. The price of features of course varies on a service to service basis. Concern emerges when dealing with 911 emergency calls made over VoIP connections. VoIP 911 calls are handled differently than wire 911 calls. The origin of VoIP calls cannot always be traced as they are with land wire emergency calls.

The FCCs regulations and Enhanced 911 program aim to keep VoIP users safe and significantly lessen the concern for subscribers in a state of emergency. Sooner or later this problem will most likely become obsolete. Some of the top VoIP providers include Vonage, AT&T CallVantage, Packet8 and BroadVoice. Plenty of telephone service providers are jumping on the digital bandwagon, so more carriers are expected to expand this way as well.

Sony PSP Product Review and Honest Assessment

Apparently, Sony is hating life as microsoft xbox blows their doors off and sends Sony play Station packing as they bolt into the future, taking their cake and eating it too. How did microsoft pull this off, when everybody thought that they were a distant second? Apparently it just proves that if you bet against Bill Gates, you are going to lose, because microsoft with its xbox shows no mercy for Sony.

The Sony play station portable is the best that they have right now in the portable option category, but it is really not very good and after playing something like the xbox at home, taking the Sony PSP around would just make you look like an underachiever with your friends. The Sony PSP for the best new innovation in gaming consoles ranks second to the absolute overkill of xbox and unfortunately Sony's best in innovation in 2005, well their best is second best and in the contest for the best gaming console, second place may as well be last place.

As a matter of fact one has to wonder why anyone would buy a Sony PSP when you can wait until you get back home and play the real thing on a far superior product like the xbox. The Sony PSP, well it is just boring after having it all on an xbox. One has to seriously doubt if Sony will ever catch up now, either with its mobile technology or the home gaming console. Even with heavy discounting; Sony is in some serious hot water with gammers, as their most loyal make the switch to xbox without looking back, think on this in 2006.

English Soccer - England's Football League Division One Review

It would appear that Swindon Town have been keeping an eye on Football England recently, at least that's what I'm claiming anyway. Since I tipped them as most likely to stay up in the now ferocious relegation battle, they haven't put a foot wrong.

This was confirmed by another good win at home to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The 2-1 victory, gives them three on the bounce on the row, and confidence seems to have been restored. Any struggling teams yet to visit the County Ground - beware.

manager Iffy Onoura was well pleased with the latest result, and also seems optimistic of survival. Perhaps he's also in a good mood because the proposed television project featuring big Ron has been booted into row z, early doors.

At the top, Southend reconfirmed their promotion credentials with a fine 2-0 away defeat of Yeovil, which keeps them top. Shaun Goater scored the second, and his goals could be vital in the remainder of the season.

Brentford too perhaps have been reading this column. Last week I voiced a concern that letting DJ Campbell disappear to Birmingham for a pittance could harm their promotion aspirations. Seems I'm wrong.

The Bees absolutely paggered Walsall 5-0, proving that they can score without the DJ (League one player of the month for Jan), and heaping misery on a forlorn Paul Merson. Brentford still look nicely poised, sitting 5th with games in hand. Walsall look to be in terminal decline, and Merson has hinted that he will quit if results don't improve.

Colchester continue to make us marvel at their impressive record this term. A comfortable 3-1 home win over Bradford City, after going 1-0 down racks up a club record of nine consecutive wins, and perhaps more impressively winning 19 out of 21.

Bradford went ahead through stocky veteran Dean Windass just before half time - the chunky striker is still a force to be reckoned with at this level. The game, now a tough test, was turned by the inspirational Richard Garcia who headed home twice early in the secone half. Garcia has now notched 6 in his last 4 games. A confident display was rounded off by Chris Iwelumo, also heading in just after the hour.

Colchester must now believe they can go up without the lottery of the play offs - they sit second, 1 point behind Southend, with a game in hand.

Also at the top, Barnsley have slipped in unnoticed in recent weeks, while others have floundered. A 2-0 victory over Bristol City at home this weekend lifts them into fourth spot. Much of this recent form can be attributed to striker Marc Richards, who bagged both goals, bringing his tally to 10 in the last 15 outings. His first was an exquisite finish after lobbing a defender on his approach.

Back at the bottom, a predictable dour affair between Rotherham & Hartlepool ended 0-0. Both these sides are in deep trouble and must turn the corner soon or bye bye. Hartlepool were under the instruction of youth team coach Paul Stephenson for the first time after the much publicised turmoil at the club. Hopefully he can get them on track.

MK Dons look to be adrift without a paddle after going down 2-0 to Scunthorpe. Scunny will be glad of the points to keep them above water, thanks again to their prolific goal getter Billy Sharp. Another brace for Sharp put the game away after just 10 minutes.

As for the Dons - it looks like they are going. Will anybody miss them?

Blackpool continue to show great determination at home, and look to have what it takes to stay up. The Seasiders were very unlucky to take only the 1 point from their home meeting with Notts Forest.

A creditable 8,399 turned out for this 2-2 draw in which Blackpool were always in control, until the last minute equaliser by Forest's Julian Bennett.

Oldham Athletic tripped themselves up by going down 1-0 in an eminently winnable game at home to Port Vale. This leaves the Latics adrift by 7 points from the play off spots. manager Ronnie Moore knows he has to improve quickly.

Finally, Chesterfield kept up their unbeaten run and their play off hopes with a late home equaliser against Gillingham. Chesterfiald lie in 7th, with the Gills out of trouble, for the moment.
